Mark_9:47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire
Have you ever given any thought to the scripture above? I know that, throughout history, there might have been people who misunderstood and literally plucked out their own eye. What is the Lord truly telling us in this scripture? There are many scriptures in the bible concerning eyes, God's eyes, man's eyes, the eyes of idols, and the eyes of the blind. How can our eyes offend us? In Mark 9:47, the word for offend is: skan-dal-id'-zo To “scandalize”; from G4625; to entrap, that is, trip up (figuratively stumble [transitively] or entice to sin, apostasy or displeasure): - (make to) offend. From this, we can understand that if our eyes are looking at things that are entrapping us, it is better not to look upon them. Today, many things are trying to draw our eyes, our attentions, and our affections away from the Lord. What seems to be a worthy cause or normal information, can lead us down a slippery slope. If what we are focusing our attentions on comes from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; even what appears to be good or “enlightening” will be bad for us. The only real truth comes from the tree of life in the Kingdom of God. Mat_6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. Luk_11:34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. In Matthew 6:22 and Luke 11:34, the Lord is telling us to keep our eye single upon him. If we don't keep our eyes singled upon Him our body can be full of darkness. Whatever we focus on becomes big. If we focus on God, He becomes big in our lives. If we focus on our problems or the problems of others; those problems become bigger than God and we are filled with darkness. This application can take many forms. For instance; if I have a pain in my knee and I focus on the pain, the pain seems to increase. However, if I pray and submit the pain to the Lord and continue to focus on Him my pain lessens. Why? Because I am not giving pain preeminence over the word of God in my life. The word of God says, “by the stripes of Jesus I am healed.” I believe that so I am going to focus my eyes, my vision, on His word not on my symptoms. There are many things out there, teachings that are false light or dark light. At first they don't have that appearance but head knowledge is not light. It's head knowledge. In this season God is doing a deep cleanse in His people. He wants to entrust us with His true riches; which is His word and His people. We need to pay attention to our conversations. Who is receiving the glory: the world around us, politics, prepping, problems, people or worldly wisdom Php_4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things Does this mean you cannot discuss these things? No. Just consider the level it takes in your heart. Is that all you meditate on day and night? Are you saturating yourself with it? Are you giving at least equal time to the word of God? Rev_3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. Jesus says in Mat 13:13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. There are many things that are captivating the minds of believers which causes them to become dull in hearing and blind. Are you being brought into captivity by things of this world? There are many things that are capturing us like birds in a snare and we don't know it. We go on this tangent that takes us further and further away from the Lord and His Kingdom It's time to do an inventory and take stock of our lives. Ask the Lord to reveal things we are doing that by themselves are not sins that will take you to hell; but they do take you further away from Him. It only takes a little leaven to leaven the whole lump. Don't be surprised when He begins to highlight things. Be ready to lay them down. We are entering into a fabulous season in God. We don't want any weights holding us back from what He wants to do with us. Remember. Whatever you look upon becomes big! Let's look upon Jesus, the Word of God made flesh!
